Protect your Children with these Summertime Home Security Tips

Jul 15, 2021

Keeping your children safe around the home is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. The summer season can be a time for great outdoor activities, but that doesn’t mean families should take the summer off from safety.

The increase of dangerous crimes such as home invasion, vandalism, and theft can make it even harder to keep your family secure. Take an active role in keeping your kids safe by installing a home security system.

Here are some summer home security tips:

Keep an eye on your children and home all day long – even during the summer months – and watching for suspicious activity can seem like an overwhelming task. However, a complete home security system
can help.

First, check to see that your security system’s sensors are hooked up properly to the detectors in your home. Also, double-check that the alarms and other features on your system are working correctly. If you don’t have the latest model, you may want to consider upgrading to a more modern model. Remember, these devices are your first line of defense against burglars, so invest in the best technology you can afford.

Have your home security system’s motion detectors on when you’re not around – or at least making noise when motion is detected. These detectors will trigger the alarm if they sense movement, often in conjunction with video cameras, which give you more options for monitoring your home.

Don’t rely on just one or two of these sensors to protect your home; combine them with sirens, glass break detectors,
and other surveillance devices so that you have the best chance of stopping intruders.

You could protect your valuables with devices that use biometrics – whether you choose passwords or fingerprint readers. It’s always safer to be safe than sorry. But two-factor authentication works twice as hard to protect your devices. If a new device is detected, trying to access your accounts like a phone or PC lets you know if anyone can access your things without your knowledge.

Two-factor authentication is far more secure than just passwords, often easily stolen and used before the password can be changed. So while it won’t prevent every possible thief from trying to steal your valuables, it will keep you and your family much safer from unauthorized access.

Use a smartphone app to remotely control your home security system, arm and disarm your security system, and monitor the status of your cameras and motion sensors.

This app connects to the company’s system and allows you to see your camera feed, view recorded footage, and even arm or
disarm your home security system. In addition, you can use the smartphone app to control various features, such as smart notifications and video analytics. You can monitor live camera feeds to see if your home is compromised. Your security system, for example, can be armed and disarmed remotely using the app so that you don’t have to enter your front door to disarm it.
