If you’re an Alarm.com and Apple user, your voice just got stronger.
Siri Shortcuts for Alarm.com is a brand new voice control integration that allows you to activate Alarm.com Scenes by talking to Siri, using customizable voice ‘shortcuts’. These shortcuts integrate into your present routines, making it easier and more intuitive to interact with your smart home.
You may activate your Siri Shortcuts for Alarm.com with any compatible device with iOS12 installed. These include your iPhone, iPad, HomePod, Apple Watch, and your CarPlay-enabled vehicle dashboard, enabling you to voice-control your home from the road.
In addition to setting up easy shortcuts for your Alarm.com-powered device, you could even combine Alarm.com Scenes with other applications on your Apple ecosystem, making things a lot more convenient.
Here’s what you can do with Siri Shortcuts for Alarm.com:
1: Let Siri Make a Scene
Alarm.com Scenes let you control any of your smart devices – lighting, garage door, locks, thermostat, or alarm system – with one command.
Siri Shortcuts gives you a brand new way to activate Scenes with your own voice alone. Use your Alarm.com application to prepare a custom Siri voice command to trigger any Alarm.com scene – you could be as creative or as natural with your commands as you prefer – and get talking.
You could start the day with a cheery “Hey Siri… Good Morning!” command to activate your Alarm.com Wake Up scene, which turns on your lights and disarms your alarm system. Later on, a whispered “Hey Siri: It’s baby’s nap time,” could activate a custom scene to your nursery that turns the lights down and switches on the smart plug for your infant’s sound machine.
2: Voice-control your home inside or outside
Siri Shortcuts for Alarm.com extends hands free voice control out of your home to where your iPhone is. The next time you pull out from the driveway and wonder if you armed your alarm system, you’ll be able to confirm it by activating your Away scene with a pre-set Siri Shortcut like: “Hey Siri: secure the home!”
Whenever you come home, you don’t even have to open your Alarm.com app. Simply use Apple CarPlay or your iPhone to activate Siri and use your shortcut phrase to trigger your “Home” scene.
Note: As a home security precaution, Alarm.com requires your phone to be unlocked for Siri Shortcuts to activate a Scene.
3: Use Alarm.com controls with other apps
You also can use Apple’s Shortcuts application to make multitasking programs that unite Alarm.com actions with other application controls. It’s a new way to end ‘app overload’ and weave your smart home’s useful capabilities closer with other technology you use daily.
For instance, you can tell Siri “Good Night” as a shortcut and combine this with a “Sleep” scene in Alarm.com. This can arm your security system, turn the lights down and lock all doors, while also setting a morning alarm on your iPhone and activate it’s ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode.
In the morning, you can use your ‘Away’ scene with Alarm.com as part of a ‘Heading Out’ shortcut for Siri that not only secures your home but also turns down the thermostat and brings up Google Maps to the direction of your appointment via your calendar.
